Christmas message from Blackfalds Mayor Richard Poole

Richard Poole
Mayor of the Town of Blackfalds

I am very honoured to give this greeting as the Mayor of Blackfalds.
Blackfalds has been my family home for the past 38 Christmas’ and during this time Mary and I have seen huge changes.  Rolling hills was once our Christmas toboggan run and instead of the arena we had an ice surface by IREC.  Our one school is now four and each one builds new Christmas memories for their families.  While Town staff used to decorate a portion of main street, they now make Tayles’ Park a magical destination and Christmas lights are seen throughout the Town.
During this season I hope we can all take time to enjoy our blessings.  Unlike many in the world, we have a warm roof over our head, food on the table and safety for our families. These are the things that make us rich. Be joyful and loving and most of all celebrate Christmas in ways that will be meaningful to you and allow you to continue to create memories that will last a lifetime.
The New Year is going to be a busy one.  We will once again be looking to you for guidance for major projects over the next five years. Our Town will soon be part of a waste water line joining Lacombe, Lacombe County and Blackfalds to Red Deer’s excellent facility.   Around Blackfalds we see several business areas under construction and we are looking forward to see what each of these spaces will add.    There is a new apartment block and our residential properties continue to multiply.   And finally, on December 12 at our last meeting of the year Town Council, partnering with the Lacombe foundation and Bethany Group – approved moving forward on a project to provide more affordable seniors housing in our community.   I am excited and proud to be part of Blackfalds.
On behalf of Town Council – Merry Christmas and all the best for you and yours in 2018.
