A big week rolled out November 28 as the Town of Blackfalds held a Regular Council meeting Tuesday, A 2018 Budget Open House Wednesday and the Annual Light Up Blackfalds later that evening.
The Council meeting was highlighted by Recreation Fee Rates and Amendments. Fees have seen no increase in four years and it was explained that town rates are in line with most other municipalities offering similar services. Council members agreed that people are coming to our rec facilities from all over Central Alberta to utilize them. CAO Myron Thompson delivered a presentation to bring council up to speed and review progress so far with the new council in place a month. He touched on items such as the success of several meetings, presentations and events council members had been involved with including the AUMA convention and local facility tour.
– Council approved to finalize 2018 Budget December 12.
– Council Members will have signing authority with Servus
– Revenue Canada Account will be updated
– Recreation Fees accepted
Better ways to communicate with the public were discussed and there’s a committee for that. Marina, Laura and Will were enthusiastic about participating and will form part of an Ad Hoc Working Committee for Public Engagement.

Budget Open House
The 2018 Budget Open House provided an opportunity for the public to engage with council members in an informal atmosphere to learn about the budget and have any questions answered. Council members were on hand and coffee and hot chocolate was provided by Tim Hortons. Results of the Citizen Budget an interactive online survey were made available as well as displays for town Operations, Capital Projects and Major Budget changes. If you were unable to attend more information is available from the town via the website.
