Incumbent Ray Olfert running for Blackfalds town council

Ray Olfert, incumbent

Good day everyone. My name is Ray Olfert and I am running for re-election for council for our wonderful Town of Blackfalds. For those of you who don’t know me, here is a little about myself and my family. We will have lived here in Blackfalds 12 years this coming Christmas. My wife, Helen, works for Alberta Health Services, and my 3 kids, aged 17, 15 and 6 are all currently attending school within Wolf Creek School Division. Myself, I have a Bachelor of Education and have taught in several schools in Central Alberta. I also have experience in roofing and siding. Currently I am working on bringing a new business to Blackfalds. I am very involved with my church, trying to reach out to the community with a variety of events. Outside of my appointed boards I am also a member of the AG Society and when the Youth Optimists have a dance, I am usually able to chaperone. Friends know I’m willing to help when and if I can.
Blackfalds has seen amazing growth and I’ve been fortunate to be part of it. These past 7 years on council have given me many new insights and opportunities to lend my voice and thoughts. The challenge coming up will be starting to manage a more balanced growth plan. The Town has gotten to the point where we are seeing remarkable things starting to happen. Developers are bringing lease space and Arts and Culture events are becoming more frequent. I would like to see both of those increase even more. I am also honoured to help the library move to no fee library cards, which is something I would like to see completed. Also on this list, is the continued lobbying for a high school in Town.
One thing you will notice about me is that this will be the only election paraphernalia that I will have. I have decided to take a different approach to this election and be a little more environmentally friendly. I won’t have any signs put out and I will have limited copies of this brochure. If you would like this info, I would be happy to email it to you.
