Enjoy the best of Alberta this summer

By Mayor Melodie Stol
The official start of summer is just a few weeks away where we take the time enjoy the best of Alberta – camping, golfing, backyard fire pits and good times with family and friends.
Summer 2017 is also the time when we start to turn our thoughts to the fall season – more specifically to October when our municipal elections occur. Summer is the time to investigate and decide if you are interested in running for office.
I encourage all those who are interested in running to research what is involved; myself and the current council members welcome you to ask us about our experiences. Council meetings are open to the public and I hope all those who are interested join us for at least one meeting prior to nomination day, and keep an eye out online for candidate information packages which will be available on Monday, June 19 online and at the Town Office.
Being an elected official very rewarding and challenging, and Blackfalds is a dynamic community with lots of projects and growth. We need people who are committed to building our community up and face the continued challenges of a high growth municipality. I hope to see some new names step forward as candidates for Nomination Day (September 18).
